CHINA'S Foreign Ministry confirmed yesterday that seven Chinese seamen were missing after a cargo ship accident at sea on Sunday near Russia's eastern port of Vladivostok.
Russian media reported that the ship sank in a storm off the nation's Pacific Coast. Three Chinese crew members were rescued after the mishap, according to a posting on the ministry's Website.
There were also reports that eight sailors may have died, but there was no word on their nationalities. The crew of the Sierra Leone-flagged ship also included Indonesian sailors.
Chinese consulate officials in Khabarovsk and Vladivostok visited the rescued sailors and offered assistance, the ministry said.
