Chinese suppliers accused of pollution
Forty-eight Chinese suppliers of international fashion and sportswear brands have been accused of causing pollutions by five environmental protection groups.
These Chinese enterprises, whose clients include sportswear giants Nike and Adidas and fast-fashion retailors Zara and H&M, were found discharging hazardous chemicals into the rivers and wasting vast amount of water, the groups said in a report.
They accused some textile companies of secretly discharging wastes without proper treatment and reusing outdated equipment that had been sealed by authorities for causing pollutions, Beijing News reported today.
The five domestic environmental groups made the report based on their monitoring of 48 Chinese suppliers of world-famous clothing and footwear brands, the paper said.
