Chinese tourists stranded on Boracay Island
Online travel agency Ctrip said yesterday that some tourists from Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou were stranded on the Boracay Island in the Philippines after flights were cancelled because of typhoon.
Some of the tourists could not be reached as power was knocked out, said Chen Ying, a Ctrip staff. The company is arranging for their quick return.
Some of the stranded tourists are expected to return early today, but those who had booked chartered flights may have to wait for about three days before they can make the trip back home, Chen said.
Ctrip has cancelled some tour packages to the country. It expects travel to return to normal gradually from Monday.
It is not the tourist season in the Philippines, and most travelers are on their own and not part of any tour groups.
