Cholera sends 19 students to hospital
HEALTHY authorities in eastern Jiangsu Province confirmed that an outbreak of cholera had infected 19 students after they had eaten unclean food. The victims with symptoms of fever, vomiting and diarrhea were recovering in hospital, today's Yangtze Evening News reported.
The students in Wucheng'en Middle School in Huai'an City fell sick in the evening of September 2 and were sent to local hospital for treatment.
Authorities said it was an isolated case and was unrelated with the cholera outbreak in Mengcheng County, Anhui Province, early last month.
A two-week cholera outbreak in Mengcheng, also caused by unclean food, affected nearly 30 people, who have all recovered after hospital treatment. Health authority in Mengcheng later closed all restaurants and food stalls.
