Chow Yun-fat pledges 99% of his fortune for charity

HONG KONG actor Chow Yun-fat has pledged to donate 99 percent of his wealth for charity after he dies. The 55-year-old movie star said he had already reached agreement with his wife Jasmine Tan, Shanghai Morning Post reported today.

The couple has discussed their donation details with their lawyer, the report said.

Chow is estimated to be worth some 500 million yuan (US$74.11 million) but still lives a normal life. He said he was inspired after playing in Ang Lee's "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," during which he was overpowered by natural beauty and began pondering about the meaning of life.

Chow started his film career in Hong Kong and became a household name for his leading role in "The Bund," a popular TV series in 1980s.

He shot to fame in Hollywood for his performance in "The Corruptor and Anna" and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon".
Chow became the first entertainment celebrity to announce a decision to donate nearly all money, following two mainland business leaders Chen Guangbiao and Feng Jun.
