Circus tiger badly mauls a man and his daughter

A man in Deyang City, Jiangxi Province was mauled by a circus tiger when he tried to save his daughter, Jiangnan Metropolis Daily reported today.

Tang Baoguo and his 7-year-old daughter Zhang Meizhi were both bitten in the head by the tiger which broke loose from the cage during a performance on Sunday night. The girl was still in critical condition because the tiger's teeth probably had hurt her brain.

Tang told the newspaper that the tiger burst from its cage during the performance and charged at Tang and his daughter sitting in the first row. The tiger bit his daughter on the head and ran away with her in its mouth. Tang ran after the tiger which put down the girl and turned around to attack him. The trainer soon arrived and brought the tiger under control.

According to the police, the circus troupe did not have a permit to perform in Deyang. It borrowed a business license from a zoo in Yichang, Hubei Province. After the accident, the circus owner had escaped and an investigation is under way.
