Citizenship for two top scientists
NOBEL laureate Chen Ning Yang and Turing Award-winning computer scientist Andrew Chi-Chih Yao have given up their American citizenship and become Chinese citizens, the Chinese Academy of Sciences announced yesterday.
The two scientists were hired as foreign academicians of the CAS and have become full academicians in accordance with regulations.
Yang and Tsung-dao Lee received the 1957 Nobel Prize in Physics for their work on parity non-conservation of weak interaction. Yao received the Turing Award, the most prestigious award in computer science, in 2000.
The CAS has revised regulations on selecting academicians to improve the national think tank.
