City of long life

A rise in living standards over the past 60 years has added nearly three decades to the average lifespan in Beijing, the capital's office for senior citizens said yesterday. The average life expectancy of Beijing residents reached 80.24 years as of 2008, the highest in the country. That lifespan compares to 52.8 years for people in Beijing in 1949.
