City stonewalls on 89 new job posts

OFFICIALS in a north China city have refused to answer questions about the appointment of 89 new bureau chiefs, with many offices gaining about 10 deputies, Xiaoxiang Morning Post reported today.

Handan City government in Hebei Province refused to give further details about the appointments on February 2, saying the reasons were confidential, the newspaper reported.

Eleven deputy directors were appointed to the city's human resources bureau, nine to the urban management bureau, and eight got posts in the industry and information bureau.

A city Party official surnamed Zhang told Henan Youth Daily that several bureaus had merged, and there were no new promotions, just title changes.
