Clinton, Geithner in Beijing for talks
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner arrived in Beijing yesterday for the fourth round of the China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue.
Clinton and Geithner will join Vice Premier Wang Qishan and State Councilor Dai Bingguo to co-chair the annual dialogue which is taking place today and tomorrow.
The chiefs of more than 20 government agencies on both sides will attend.
The S&ED, which was initiated in 2009, aims to advance the construction of the China-US bilateral cooperative partnership, deepen communication and coordination on macroeconomic policies and major issues in the world economy, boost economic and trade cooperation and enhance communication on international and regional affairs.
Meanwhile, Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie is to pay an official visit to the US from tomorrow to May 10, at the invitation of US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta.
During the visit, Liang will meet with US state and military leaders and hold talks with Panetta. Liang will also visit the US Southern Command, Fort Benning of the US Army, US Naval Base San Diego, the 4th Fighter Wing of the US Air Force, II Marine Expeditionary Force of the US Marine Corps and the US Military Academy at West Point.
Liang said he was looking forward to the US visit, which he said would enhance mutual understanding and trust, promote cooperation, and push forward the healthy development of bilateral relations as well as military ties.
