Clinton sends condolences over China's earthquake

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton yesterday sent a condolences message to China for the recent earthquake in Yunnan that killed dozens of people.

"On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I send our deepest condolences to those affected by the recent tragedy in southwestern China," the top diplomat said in a statement.

"As people in Yunnan province mourn the loss of life and work to save those that are injured and trapped in the rubble, our thoughts are with the injured, the families of the victims, and with all the people of China," she said.

At least 25 people were killed in a 5.8-magnitude earthquake that jolted Yingjiang County in southwest China's Yunnan Province around noon yesterday.

The provincial civil affairs department said yesterday that 250 people were injured, with 134 in serious condition.
