Coal mine death toll reaches 30
Thirty miners have been confirmed dead after a gas leak occurred in a coal mine in Yunnan Province on Thursday morning, rescue headquarters said yesterday.
As of 7:25pm last night, 30 bodies had been found and 13 miners were still trapped underground at Sizhuang Coal Mine.
The mine's license had been revoked a year ago and it was operating illegally at the time of the accident. The families of 17 victims received 10,000 yuan (US$1,577) for funeral expenses. Each dead miner's family will get 660,000 yuan in compensation.
