Coal mine fire traps at least 28 in Shandong Province
Altogether 28 miners were still trapped underground by 7:30am today in east China's Shandong Province after a coal mine fire occurred last night, according to officials with the Shandong government.
Rescuers have managed to lift 63 miners to the ground, officials said.
An air-compression device in a parking lot 225-meters underground caught fire around 6:45pm yesterday, trapping 91 miners working in the area, officials said.
An expert team headed by Luo Lin, director of State Administration of Work Safety, rushed to the scene immediately, Xinhua reported.
The low-gas coal mine belongs to Zaozhuang Fangbei Coal Mine Co Ltd in Shandong. It completed a technical revamp in June 2010 to expand production capacity to 150,000 tons a year.
