Coca-Cola Shanxi insists its products are safe

COCA-COLA Shanxi Beverages Co Ltd said today at a press conference in Shanxi Province that the patches of coke and fruit-flavored Fanta soft drinks produced between February 4 and 8 contained just minimal levels of residual chlorine that meet the national standards.
But the company said customers and retailers who bought the soft drinks it produced on those dates can have them replaced.
The residual chlorine is an indicator of taste rather than an indicator of safety, Coca-Cola Shanxi said, assuring the public that its products are safe to drink.
It said it offered to replace the products in order to relieve the worry of its customers.
"We really take public opinions into consideration," David G. Brooks, Coca-Cola president for Greater China, said in the press conference in Taiyuan, the provincial capital.
The company also said some of its employees have been sacked for refusing to cooperate with authorities in investigation and deleted their e-mails to evade responsibilities.
But it didn't reveal their identities.
