Cockpit smoke forces plane to land in Wuhan
AN international flight from Hong Kong to London was forced to land in Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province yesterday morning due to a mechanical problem, Changjiang Daily reported today.
The Cathy Pacific Flight CX251 crew reported smokes in its cockpit two hours after taking off at 11:50pm on Saturday. It had 235 passengers and 18 crew members.
After receiving its emergency landing request, the Wuhan Tianhe Airport dispatched nine fire engines, three ambulances and armed police in case of a major crisis.
The plane landed safely at 2:07am on Sunday and all the passengers and crew staff evacuated to the terminal building within 30 minutes. The airport provided them with blankets and food.
At 9:09am, 68 passengers took a China Southern Airlines flight back to Hong Kong; the rest took a Dragon Airline flight back to Hong Kong at 11:23am.
The Cathy Pacific plane is still in Wuhan for checks and repair, the paper said.
