Cold snap hits country
TEMPERATURES are expected to drop in much of China over the next three days as the cold front that swept through north China over the weekend heads south, China's National Meteorological Center said yesterday.
The temperature in northeast China and the eastern Shandong Province is expected to fall by up to 16 degrees Celsius, while central, east and south China, as well as parts of northwest and southwest China, will see a temperature drop of 6 to 12 degrees.
Many parts of China experienced a sharp drop in temperature during the weekend as a cold front hit the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and China's northern and northeastern regions.
In Mohe, China's northernmost county in Heilongjiang Province, the temperature plummeted to minus 23 yesterday morning.
The center advised people to put on more clothes, fasten doors and windows securely, and to pay close attention to weather?reports.
Sleet and snow are expected in south Inner Mongolia, central and eastern parts of Gansu Province, Qinghai Province, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, and parts of north and northeast China.
In Gansu, a yellow snowstorm alert was issued, as snowfall will become heavier over the next 12 hours.
Strong winds are expected in these areas, as well as the Bohai Sea, the Yellow Sea and the northern part of the East China Sea, the center said.
