Collapsed nose wheel on plane investigated
An investigation is underway into why a Chinese-made MA-60 passenger plane’s front landing gear collapsed after it touched down at Xinzheng International Airport in Zhengzhou, capital of central China’s Henan Province.
The plane was taxiing after landing when its nose suddenly dropped on the runway, but all 37 passengers and seven crew members were uninjured.
Joyair, a regional carrier based in Xi’an City in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, has apologized for Tuesday night’s incident and paid each passenger 200 yuan (US$32) in compensation.
Five passengers flew on to Hefei City, capital of the east Anhui Province, an airline official said, while 10 refused to continue their journey with the airline.
Zhengzhou was the final stop for the other passengers, the official said.
Flight 1533 was flying from Taiyuan, capital of the north Shanxi Province, and landed at Zhengzhou about 6:30pm on Tuesday.
The airport was closed for four hours after the incident, leading to the delay of 114 flights.
The Civil Aviation Administration of China is investigating.
The airline is a joint venture between the plane’s maker, the Aviation Industry Corp of China, and China Eastern Airlines.
The airline recalled hundreds of its engineers from their Spring Festival break to check all its MA60 aircraft, and the front landing gear in particular, said Wang Chengkuan, deputy director of the AVIC Xi’an Aviation Corp.
