College students forced to donate sperm

A medical college in north China's Hebei Province reportedly forced male students to donate sperm to assist a government-sponsored semen quality research, according to today's Nanfang Daily.

A whistleblower identified as A Tao yesterday exposed online that he and his 39 male classmates at Shijiazhuang People's Medical College were led to a hospital on Monday to donate sperm despite their protest.

"I am not against sperm donation. But it is a very personal matter and it is shameful for the school to collect sperms openly," A Tao said.

An official with the Hebei Provincial Sperm Bank, surnamed Zhao, confirmed that a group of college students came for sperm collection. But he said it was not for sperm donation but for sample taking, the paper reported.

He said the provincial science commission is conducting the sperm research and youngsters were asked to join voluntarily. He added that it is the college that organized the group donation.

The college hasn't made any comment on the issue.
