THE owner of a central China coal mine, where at least 19 workers died in an explosion last Wednesday, had turned himself in to police, rescue headquarters officials said yesterday.

About 90 miners were working underground when a gas explosion occurred at 7:20pm in the coal pit privately owned by Guomin Mining Co Ltd in Yichuan County of Henan Province. At least 24 people were believed still trapped underground as of yesterday.
