Companies seize mist opportunity
AS people seek new ways to tackle air pollution, the once specialist market for “mist cannons” is now booming.
Hebei Yuanda Vehicles Manufacturing Co said it sold more than 100 mobile mist cannons last year.
“Business has really taken off,” said Wu Chao, vice manager of the company.
Mist cannons were once used only in industry to keep dust levels down, but they are now being picked up by cities to battle urban smog.
Such machines, which can spray mist up to 200 meters and 60m into the air, are already in place in Lanzhou in Gansu, Taiyuan in Shanxi, and Changsha in Hunan.
Despite their new-found popularity, mist cannons are not the answer to cutting pollution, an environment specialist said.
“The solution is to cut emissions,” said Zhang Ruiqin, from Zhengzhou University.
