Company says offices smashed by thugs led by district deputy director in Changsha

A BEIJING-based cultural industry company has complained that its offices in Changsha, the capital of south-central Hunan Province, were attacked by thugs pretending to be police, led by the deputy director of the local government in Tianxin District.

Officials of the company, Xuan Tang Li Qin, said more than 200 fake cops wearing police gear and camouflage garments with helmets emblazoned a police emblem smashed the company’s Changsha offices with sticks on the evening of November 29, according to the security guard on duty that day.

Officials said police confirmed that the attackers were not real police officers. The officials said they were being pressured to force them out of a business agreement with the district government.

Company officials identified the government official they claimed is behind the attack as Xiao Sijun.

The company signed an agreement with the local government to build a cultural industrial park in 2011. However, the local government said it must withdraw from the project due to a disagreement over marketing strategies for the park promised in the agreement. The chairman of the company said it was not fair to force out the company at this time and that other legal actions may be pending.
