Compensation for miners' families
FAMILY members of 43 victims in last month's coal mine gas leak in Yunnan Province have received compensation, an official said yesterday.
According to the compensation plan, the families of 35 victims whose bodies have been retrieved have been paid 660,000 yuan (US$104,265) each, while the families of the other eight victims whose bodies have yet to be found have been paid 700,000 yuan each, Qujing Mayor Yue Yuesheng said yesterday.
The accident occurred at Sizhuang Coal Mine in Shizong County in Qujing on November 10. A powerful gas blast hit two underground platforms. A total of 43 miners were trapped and 35 bodies have been retrieved.
The mine was operating illegally.
