Compensation for war victims
A CHINESE foundation will manage the distribution of compensation funds paid by Japan's Nishimatsu Construction Co to Chinese wartime laborers forced to work in Niigata, Japan.
The funds will be used to pay compensation to the laborers' relatives, host memorial services and identify others who were forced to work, the China Foundation for Human Rights Development said. Japanese Nishimatsu Construction Co agreed to pay 128 million yen (US$1.36 million) in compensation to the victims last week. In June 1944, 183 Chinese laborers were forced to work at a hydro power station construction site in Niigata.
