Compensation set for families of school bus victims

FAMILIES traumatized by the school bus crash in northwest China's Gansu Province on Wednesday will receive 436,000 yuan (US$68,656) in compensation for each of their killed children.
The death toll rose to 21 yesterday after a five-year-old boy died in the hospital.
The overloaded minibus collided head-on with a truck in Zhengning County, killing 19 kindergarten children and injuring 43 kids. The bus driver and a teacher also died.
Families who bought insurances for their children can claim compensation from the insurance companies immediately, the official People's Daily reported today.
China Life Insurance Co Ltd confirmed that 12 children, including three killed, were covered by its child accident insurance. It has sent compensation money to its Zhengning branch.
The school bus was running at a high speed on the wrong side of the road in heavy fog when it crashed into a truck. The nine-seat bus was crammed with 62 children when the accident happened.
