Complaints in Beijing airport bombing to be investigated
THE complaints that the wheelchair-bound Beijing airport bomber said led to his actions will be investigated, police have told Beijing News.
Ji Zhongxing, a 33-year-old wheelchair-bound man, set off a homemade explosive device outside the airport's Terminal 3 arrivals exit on July 20. He was severely injured in the blast. Last Tuesday, he was sentenced to six years behind bars.
Ji said he was trying to draw attention to what he said was an unprovoked assault by local law enforcement officers when he was working in the southern province of Guangdong that resulted in his paralysis and put him deeply in debt.
Ji said his claims for compensation and demands for his attackers to be punished in the June 2005 assault had been rejected over the years, and he said he wanted to attract the public attention by speaking at the airport.
He insisted that he was so nervous that he accidentally triggered the explosives. He had appealed the court ruling.
Zhang Zhiqiang, spokesman for Dongguan police, said the attack case has been placed on file for investigation, Beijing News reported.
