Confucius seeks charity

THE state-financed Confucius Institute said yesterday it plans to set up a fund for public donations. The announcement was made at the end of its annual conference, which was this year held in Shanghai. It did not elaborate on the plan, but officials also said the institute is planning to establish a global alumni association.
