Confucius-savvy foreigners offered free tickets to top sites
FOREIGNERS who can recite five quotes of Confucius will be given free tours of his birthplace, according to a new policy by authorities in Qufu, east China’s Shandong Province.
The government said the scheme aims to promote the ancient philosopher.
Free tickets to three UNESCO World Heritage Sites are on offer to any foreigner who can recite five sentences from “The Analects,” a collection of sayings by Confucius.
The thinking of the philosopher, who lived in the Spring and Autumn Period (770BC-476BC), has greatly influenced Chinese culture.
The sentences can be recited in any language.
Successful challengers will be given a certificate of honor that will exempt them from paying to enter the Temple of Confucius, the Cemetery of Confucius and the Kong Family Mansion.
