Controversy swirls over woman's death
A 38-year-old woman in central Henan Province was killed by an excavator at a construction site on Monday and local officials said her family already accepted the investigation result that she died in accident, Shandong Business News reported today.
However, Zhengyang County government also admitted that they had not reached an agreement with Li Li's family for compensation as it considered her family's demand was too high.
Li Li was killed by the excavator when she tried to interrupt the construction that drew strong protest from local residents because the planned buildings are dangerously close to the river.
The local government said in its investigation report that Li "accidentally fell in front of the excavator," but local residents refused to accept the report, the newspaper said.
A video clip posed online from a mobile phone showed some construction workers were standing by mirthfully after the tragedy, but the local government claimed workers on the spot acted immediately to save Li's life and the video was "not clear enough to show the truth."
