Convicted murderer denies killings
AN army deserter in southwest China who was sentenced to death for killing two people, injuring a sentry and committing armed robberies is denying the charge of murder at an appeal trial.
Wu Yong, 32, a native of Yibin City, Sichuan Province, said he didn't kill his comrade in 2000 and a 12-year-old boy in 2002, the Sichuan Higher People's Court heard yesterday.
Wu recanted his previous testimony, saying it was just for "attracting public interest," reported yesterday's Chengdu Evening News.
Wu said he witnessed his comrade surnamed Guo killed by a local villager after the two ran out of the army to Hebei Province. He said his accomplice Tang Zhengfang shot the boy to death.
Wu admitted shooting a sentry guarding a satellite observatory in Yibin City in 2003 and admitted his armed robberies with other four men, who were also on trial yesterday, between 2001 and 2009.
The court didn't hand down a final verdict.
