Cop blamed as boy dies
A POLICE officer in Shenzhen allegedly ran over a two-year-old boy while driving a patrol car, and the victim's family claimed the officer was driving under the influence of alcohol.
The officer, surnamed Luo, started the patrol car in a community in Longgang District on Thursday afternoon. After Luo drove 2 meters, the father of the boy, surnamed Fang, screamed, knocked the car door and stopped the car. Luo found a boy lying under the wheels, Guangzhou Daily reported yesterday.
Luo called an ambulance and traffic police right after the accident. The boy died later, a police officer surnamed Zhan, head of the publicity department of Longgang Public Security Bureau, told the media.
Fang claimed Luo reeked of alcohol after he got out of the patrol car. He suspected Luo was drunk and this caused the tragedy, the report said.
Luo showed no signs of being drunk and he passed a breathalyzer test, said Yi Ping, a traffic police officer.
Luo had a blood test in the hospital after the accident, but the result was not yet available, Yi added.
Police said they were still investigating the incident.
