Cop gets beaten by demolition team
A POLICEMAN is hospitalized for a broken leg after he was badly beaten by some 20 urban management officers to demolish his unauthorized yard in southwest China's Yunnan Province.
Zhang Jin, an investigator of the Public Security Bureau of Kunming, the provincial capital, now receiving treatment in No. 533 Hospital of the People's Liberation Army, said he was beaten by the officers who tried to tear down his self-built yard, local Life News reported yesterday.
Zhang was pushed away by the officers to prevent him from collecting his belongings in the yard when the demolition took place on December 24. Zhang claimed he was a policeman and said they should enforce law in such a violent manner, but he was ignored, the newspaper said.
Zhang tried to prove his identity by showing them his baton, but he was punched down on the ground and got badly beaten by at least 20 officers.
Zhang's neighbors said they saw the assault and wondered why other policemen who accompanied the demolition team didn't intervene.
Zhang underwent an operation on his leg on Monday morning. A spokesperson for the demolition team, Mao Li, said the public security bureau will probe into Zhang's case.
