Cop's gun recovered; suspects still at large

POLICE in Anhui Province have recovered an officer's stolen gun, but are still searching for three suspects in the case that hospitalized one officer.

Officers Zhang Long and Mao Jigen approached three men they suspected of stealing a moped in Tongcheng City on Tuesday. One suspect fled on the moped while the other two ran in another direction. Mao chased the two on foot.

He was hit on the head and his gun, carrying two bullets, was stolen, China National Radio reported yesterday.

Mao was knocked unconscious and was left with concussion and bruises to his head and other parts of his body, the report said.

Police have doubled the reward from 10,000 (US$ 1,460) yuan to 20,000 yuan for information about the suspects' whereabouts, the report said.

One of the suspects has a square face, thick neck, and wears glasses, police said.

The three suspects wore black, yellow and purple T-shirts and were believed to be fleeing Tongcheng. They might be riding a grey moped, the report said.

The suspects apparently dropped the gun and ammunition after they got away.

Special squads and police are sweeping the city in search of the three suspects, the report said.

The Ministry of Public Security also sent crime scene investigators to help with the investigation, according to Qiangjiang Evening News.
