Cops search for suspect after acid poured on boy

NANJING City police are hunting for a man who spilled sulfuric acid onto a 12-year-old boy yesterday after the boy's mother ended their relationship, police said.

Cai Shilin, 51, allegedly poured acid on the boy, nicknamed Le Le, who was on his way to school. Cai took revenge on the boy because his mother dumped him, local media reports said.

Le Le had severe acid burns on his face, neck, chest and abdomen. He may lose some of his vision as his eyes were severely burned in the attack, Modern Express reported.

Le Le was still in intensive care at a children's hospital.

Police posted Cai's portrait online, asking for clues from the public. Anyone who offers valuable clues leading to Cai's capture will receive a 10,000 yuan (US$1,631) reward, police said.

In July 2012, sulfuric acid was spilled on a 10-year-old boy in Nanchang, capital of Jiangxi Province, in his home when his parents were out. He suffered burns to 40 percent of his body, a local newspaper reported.

A 34-year-old woman later confessed to hiring a man to hurt the boy because she had an affair with his father.
