Cops seize 62kg of heroin

BORDER police in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region have seized 62 kilograms of heroin in an international drug ring bust. It is the largest known drug-trafficking case in the region's history.

Police seized 162 bricks of heroin hidden among 913 boxes of papayas imported from neighboring Vietnam and arrested six suspects. However, the foreign ringleaders are still at large, Nanguo Morning Post reported yesterday.

Police were tipped-off on Sunday afternoon that banned products were hidden in a truck loaded with papayas near a large wholesale market in Puzhai, the largest trading center on the China-Vietnam border.

Nearly 60 police officers were sent to the scene to check the fruit boxes. After a nine-hour check, police found 62 kilograms of heroin, the report said.

Two of the suspects are foreigners and the others are Chinese, the report said.
