Corrupt Inner Mongolia official sentenced to life
A senior official in China's northern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region was sentenced to life in prison for taking 8.17 million yuan (US$1.29 million) in bribes.
Liu Zhuozhi took the bribes between 2002 and 2010 when he was the Party chief of the Xilingol League in Inner Mongolia and the vice chairman of the regional government, the Beijing No. 1 Intermediate People's Court said today.
In exchange, Liu helped 21 bribers to get business contracts, mining licenses and job promotions.
The court sentenced him to life imprisonment because he handed over all his ill-got income, Xinhua News Agency reported.
Liu was removed from his post in December 2010 and investigated for severe discipline violations.
His wife was also probed for involvement in his corruption cases, Xinhua said.
