County official faces graft probe
A Party official in south China’s Guangdong Province is under investigation after online posts alleged that he owned properties worth over 2 billion yuan (US$327.9 million).
Lin Weizhong, a Party member of Houjie County in Dongguan City, is being investigated for “serious violation of regulations,” the local disciplinary authority said on its website.
Online posts have been circulating since November 12 accusing Lin of abusing power, taking bribes, forging seals, violating one-child policy, gambling, and keeping mistresses.
The posts contain pictures of three high-end Lexus cars and 13 properties, reportedly owned by Lin. The properties are mainly villas and hotels in Houjie County’s prime locations.
“This is just the tip of the iceberg,” wrote the whistleblower. “I can confirm Lin has more than 100 properties with a total area of more than 100,000 square meters. These properties are worth at least 2 billion yuan, besides lands that haven’t been developed.”
