Court confession may free jailed rapist
A FORMER official in northwest China who served seven years in prison for rape may have a chance to clear his name after the victim confessed she lied about the whole crime.
Pei Shutang, 66, stood trial yesterday when Liu Huifang, a former actress who claimed to be raped by him in 1986, said his colleague threatened her to frame Pei.
Pei was in charge of the culture department in Wudei City, Gansu Province and was Liu's mentor, who was hired to sing at a party, reported Lanzhou Morning Post today.
Liu sued Pei in August for raping her during a private singing lesson and Wudei People's Court found him guilty and sentenced him to seven years in jail in December, 1986.
The Wudei Intermediate People's Court didn't hand down a verdict yesterday.
