Court hears confession in bomb case

A MAN yesterday confessed to setting off an explosion in Beijing last year.

The trial of Lei Sen, 22, charged with setting off an explosive device, was heard by Dongcheng District People's Court.

Prosecutors said Lei, a farmer from Peng'an County, Sichuan Province, detonated an explosive device in Beijing's Dongcheng District to take revenge on society for his frustrations in life.

Lei confessed to detonating a home-made bomb he built from fireworks, wires, batteries and a remote control device, and he claimed to have psychological problems.

"I have many psychological problems. I think that's the point," Lei told the court.

The blast occurred on October 21 near Dongzhimen subway station, which is close to many embassies. An American man, 30, studying in China at the time, had slight leg injures from the blast.

No verdict was reached.
