Crack in windscreen forces plane’s U-turn
A SHANGHAI Airlines flight from Pudong International Airport was forced to turn back shortly after takeoff yesterday after its pilot spotted a crack in the plane’s windscreen.
Flight FM801 left Pudong at 9:53am bound for Taipei Songshan Airport, but less than an hour later the Boeing 737 was back in Shanghai. The pilot told Shanghai Television he noticed the crack about 20 minutes into the flight and immediately turned the plane around. He said he was unaware of having hit a bird and assumed the damage was due to wear and tear.
