Crackdown on foreign drug gangs
MORE that 30 foreigners have been held in Beijing in connection with drug-related crimes since a crackdown on foreign drug gangs was launched in late February.
Police said 790 grams of drugs have been seized — including cannabis, methamphetamine and ecstasy.
Most of the gang members were foreigners who brought drugs to Beijing and sold them in bustling parts of the city such as the Sanlitun bar area and high-end business district Dongba, officers told Beijing Times.
In March alone, Beijing police interrogated around 30 suspects and held 10 foreigners for drug related crimes.
Between May 15 and 25, 10 people were arrested.
In one case, one suspect had a student card for a local college while the other held a refugee certificate issued by the United Nations.
After amassing sufficient evidence, police recently carried out detentions.
