Crackdown on illegal sales
CHINA launched a six-month crackdown on the sale of illegal medicine yesterday and said it would tighten industry regulation.
The State Food and Drug Administration said the crackdown is aimed at stamping out unauthorized drug production, improper online drug retailing and sales of fake traditional Chinese medicines.
"We must resolutely punish illegal acts, expose illegal enterprises, recall problematic products," Wu Zhen, the agency's deputy commissioner, said.
Yin Li, deputy director of the SFDA, said the campaign will aim at pharmaceutical production and sales companies involved in illegal operations. Widespread counterfeit drugs and false advertising have been a problem in China for years.
