Crackdown on porn launched
A HARSH crackdown on pornographic content spread via the Internet or mobile WAP sites was launched yesterday to "purify the social environment," government sources said.
The December to May campaign was initiated by nine central government departments in a move to "resolutely eradicate pornographic and vulgar content on Internet and mobile WAP sites and clean up the online and mobile media environment," according to a teleconference.
Websites containing obscenities that "seriously threaten the mental health of minors" will be targeted.
The authorities are going to shut down sites that seriously violate the law, punish criminals and investigate companies that profit from collecting fees for porn Websites, it said.
