Cremations of victims begin
CREMATIONS of people killed in Saturday's train crash began in Wenzhou yesterday while DNA tests continued to help identify more of the victims, city officials said.
The official death toll from the accident is 39.
The Wenzhou government yesterday denied rumors that bodies were being cremated without their relatives' approval. They said cremations did not start until yesterday.
Lin Yan, 29, and 11-year-old Chen Yiji were cremated in the morning after their relatives signed legal papers, said funeral parlor staff.
"We have been told by the local authorities to prepare for the cremations and funerals. And the steps could only begin after relatives sign to approve them," a parlor worker, surnamed Zhou, said.
