Crew tell of flight drama with baby
A CHINA Southern Airlines flight from Vancouver to Guangzhou made an emergency landing in Alaska after a baby on board fell unconscious, the airline said yesterday.
The 19-month-old, whose sex was not reported, fell ill about two hours after leaving Vancouver.
The distraught parents alerted cabin crew, who found the baby’s pulse was weak, said Liu Kejia, chief flight attendant.
A doctor among the passengers on Flight CZ330 on December 2 tried to resuscitate the child, but the baby did not respond.
The doctor told the crew that the child should be sent to hospital.
Airline staff prepared visa applications and contacted the airport in Anchorage to arrange ambulances.
It landed at 7:11am, three hours after take off, and the family were rushed to hospital. The infant recovered soon afterward, said China Southern. It was not reported what had been wrong with the child. The flight reached Guangzhou 5 hours 25 minutes late.
