Criticism for government websites

Most Chinese mainland Internet users say they are "very dissatisfied" with government websites, saying they provide little useful information, a government survey said.

More than 78 percent of a total of 450,000 online participants expressed deep dissatisfaction when commenting on their experience with websites opened by government agencies, a survey by the China Software Testing Center, under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said on Thursday.

The survey revealed that less than half of the 895 official websites it evaluated disclose information about education, social welfare, employment and medical care, which were the subjects of most interest among the respondents to the survey.

The survey rated government portals by assessing information transparency, online service, interaction with users, scrutiny work, updating and maintenance.

Among Chinese mainland municipalities, provinces and autonomous regions, Beijing's government website scored the highest.
