Crowd storms official car that hits woman

A CROWD stormed a car belonging to the local judicial department yesterday in Jiyuan in Henan Province after the car hit a woman, but the people in the car refused to get out until the crowd forced one of them out, www.dahe.cn reported today.  

The woman remained in the hospital today with injuries to her legs, according to Xinhua news agency.

At around noon, an official car of local judicial department hit the woman riding an electronic bicycle. The driver got out immediately to check the woman and called for an ambulance, the local judicial department said.

Witnesses said they thought two people, suspected to be government officials, sitting on the back row of the car, didn't want to get out in the heat and instead remained in the air-conditioned vehicle. Nearly 40 or 50 people surrounding the car after the incident.

The crowd tried to talk with the men in the vehicle through the car windows for half an hour, and opened the back door to force them out. Only one official got out, and he ran away, witnesses said.

The crowd dispersed after the woman was taken away by rescuers.

Two vehicles have been seized and a police investigation is under way.

The judicial department refused to disclose the identities of the people on board the car.
