Daily forecasts for islands' sea areas

CHINA'S State Oceanic Administration formally introduced maritime environment forecasting for the sea areas around the Diaoyu Islands yesterday.
Calling the move part of its official responsibilities, the administration said the sea areas surrounding the Diaoyu Islands were part of the country's traditional territorial waters.
The forecasting service is significant for safeguarding China's maritime rights and interests as well as protecting the safety of fishermen, fishing boats and patrol ships in the area, it said.
The administration now issues daily forecasts on ocean conditions, sea waves and water temperatures for the subsequent 24 hours, which will be broadcast via the national broadcaster and Internet media.
