Daughter in asylum as mother holds her houses

A DAUGHTER is seeking public help after her mother sent her to a mental hospital in Jiangsu Province to strip her ownership of three houses valued at 6 million yuan (US$ 875,000).

Zhu Jinhong, 42, said in a letter to the media that she would donate all her properties in Beijing, Shanghai and Nantong to charity if she ever dies in the Nantong No. 4 Hospital, Shanghai Evening News reported today.

After six months of treatment for her alleged mental illness, Zhu insisted that she was 100 percent normal. She said she was kidnapped to the hospital by relatives under the influence of her mother, Tang Meilan, who Zhu claimed was obsessed with money.

After graduating from Nanjing University, one of China's most prestigious universities, Zhu immigrated to Japan where she married a Japanese man and had a child. In 2005 her husband was sent to work in Guangdong Province and Zhu followed him to China. But they soon divorced.

In 2008 Zhu lost her job due to the global recession and was ready to take back her houses previously looked after by her 73-year-old mother, the report said.

But it never occurred to Zhu that her mother would call up relatives to put her in the mental hospital.
