Dead rat in pillow angers parents
ANGRY parents want to know why their toddler son has spent 10 months sleeping on a pillow that was stuffed with a dead rat.
The 10-centimeter rat was found by the toddler's mother, surnamed He, as she was shaking the pillow after cleaning it.
The mother opened the pillow when she something prickly inside and a dead rat fell out, the Shanghai Morning Post reported today.
He's son has had his blood tested at the Capital Institute of Pediatrics in Beijing. There was no sign of infection but the parents are concerned because the doctor told them it was difficult to check everything with a blood test.
The mother said she bought the 198-yuan (US$29) bedding set, including the pillow, from her son's kindergarten in Daxing District, Beijing last August.
The head of the kindergarten, surnamed Li, said there were more than 300 children living on the campus and the bedding sets were all bought from the same manufacturer,.
Li said his kindergarten was a victim in the incident as well. He said he will help the parents seek compensation.
The manufacturer said it was willing to settle the case privately but there have been no actual amounts discussed yet.
