Deadly Kunshan blast blamed on excessive dust

AN excessive concentration of dust that caught fire has been confirmed as the cause of a Saturday explosion that killed 75 people and injured 185 in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, Xinhua news agency reported today.

A State Council appointed investigation team labeled the explosion as "serious." Yang Dongliang, director of the State Administration of Work Safety, is in charge of the investigation.

The team laid the bulk of the blame on Wu Jitao, chairman of Zhongrong Metal Products Co Ltd, where the blast occurred.

It also said the local government failed to meet its responsibilities and supervised the company poorly.
